FASHION REVOLUTION

Because the world of fashion is, unfortunately, harmful for many workers around the world, and the industry has operated for too long without worrying about the consequences for the environment, protest movements have emerged. Find out what Fashion Revolution Week and Fashion Revolution Day are and how, through our actions, we can make a real impact on the industry.

What is it?

Created in 2014, Fashion Revolution Week is a week in April, during which several countries around the world mobilize to raise awareness to the harmful effects of Fast Fashion through various events, conferences and other activities such as clothing recovery workshops and clothing exchange meetings (swap).

What for?

On 24 April 2013, the Rana Plaza building in Dhaka, Bangladesh, collapsed. Crushing and trapping several thousand people. In total, 1138 people died and 2500 others were injured in this unfortunate accident.

Rana Plaza was home to poor quality and fast-fashion garment workshops, hence the term Fast Fashion. More than half of the people who worked there, under questionable conditions, were women. The building also housed a daycare, taking in the children of these employees.

The sad event has raised awareness around the world about the harmful effects of Fast Fashion: "fast fashion at a low price". It is this awareness that is at the origin of Fashion Revolution Week and Fashion Revolution Day.

This year, the theme of Fashion Revolution Week, which will be held from April 18 to 24, is Money Fashion Power. This theme was chosen to enable consumers around the world to better understand and appreciate the true cost of clothing. Unfortunately, price tags do not reflect the real social and environmental cost of the products consumed. And consumers don't necessarily take care of their clothes as they should.

Through Fashion Revolution Week, you will be informed and aware of the real value of what you buy and wear.

Fashion Revolution Day will take place on April 24. Those who wish and are sensitive to the cause, are invited to wear their clothes upside down, for a day, so that their labels are visible. A graphic way to show your support for the movement.

Solutions

We are all aware that Fast Fashion will not disappear overnight. However, it is possible, through our actions, to make a difference for the workers of these plants and to reduce the negative consequences on the environment. So, we can each of us generate an impact!

What we chose to do

At Alizée’s, we put a lot of energy into ensuring the comfort and safety of all employees, working at all levels of the manufacture of our products, and this, in all the factories involved. Our production standards, Bluesign, ensure that the highest standards in terms of working conditions and environment are met throughout the manufacturing process of our coats.

Our clothing is made of recycled materials and does not contain any animal by products. Our coats are of excellent quality, both in their conception and manufacturing and are designed to be durable. They should therefore serve you effectively, for several winters.

We also encourage, among other things, recycling and circular economy initiatives by supporting, for example, the 2nd Life project, students from École des Pionniers, who make backpacks and vegetable bags from clothes that can no longer be sold.

What YOU, as consumers, can do :

Start by asking yourself if you REALLY need it. Reducing our consumption is the first step in the right direction. And if the answer is yes;

Find out about the stores where you shop :

What are their values?
Are their websites transparent?
Is it easy to find information on the origin of their products?
Do they support organizations or do they do other philanthropic actions?

We also suggest that you research clothing or products:

Are they of quality: fabrics, seams, cut?
Is the garment sold at a reasonable price? Prices that are too low should raise your questioning.

And above all, we must prioritize quality over quantity.

They will last longer
You will definitely get more compliments on your look!

Before considering buying new, find out about other alternatives.

Can you borrow or rent the garment?
Take a tour of thrift stores: you will be surprised at the treasures that can be found therer!
Organize clothing exchange parties with acquaintances! You can make it pretty glamorous with a few bites and a little rosé!

The textile world remains, to this day, one of the most harmful for the planet. And we have the power to change that. We are convinced that, together, we can make a difference! Let's be beautiful AND inspiring!
